Hi!

This is my adventure. Fixing, salvaging, building. Trying to make my house an homage to my favorite things about where I'm from.

Time for the windows to go up!

A long wait!  We had 1 more day of helpers, time to hoist the windows into place.  This was the most nerve wracking time, because we would find out if our inside posts were placed well to enable the largest windows to snug in between them.  All of the others had plenty of room to wiggle in.  We would also begin to see the building take shape!

Compared to the previous steps, this was very straight forward...as long as the prior measurements were still good.  The windows on the bottom level were able to slide into the allotted spaces, and we easily drilled them in from above and below.  With the exception of the middle windows (which were the largest) the others would need 2x4s to snug them in vertically.

The top level of windows were roughly the same size on the long sides- so they were able to be screwed in directly.  The windows on the back were a little more tricky.  We needed to create a brace for the two stained glass windows (which I found on Ebay from an awesome seller in TX).  They were screwed into the brace, and caulked to prevent any leaking or water.

The front we had 3 windows across the top which fit perfectly! I had purchased sliding barn door hardware on Ebay which was so so so much cheaper than a similar style at Lowe's.  I found the door at our architectural salvage store, and a bit of paint and it was perfect.  We installed the door, and placed the windows - caulked - and we had dramatically transformed the building in one day!  It was actually starting to look like something!

So exciting!
